New USDA rule may affect printers
A leading paper association recently made headlines after responding to the United States Department of Agriculture's new National Forest System rules.
In a statement, the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) stated that although it had not fully looked through the entire plan rolled out by the department, it was holding out hope that the agency had taken its concerns into account. One of the major points of contention is over-regulation, which many in the industry say adds too much of a cost burden.
"Although we are still reviewing what has just been released, we hope that we will see the concerns we shared with USDA regarding the costly procedural requirements in the proposed rule addressed in the final rule," said AF&PA's vice president and general counsel, Jan Poling, in a statement.
In a release, USDA and the Forest Service stated that they had taken into account the nearly 300,000 comments received from various parties. Many in the marketing sector rely on paper in conjunction with tools such as address validation software.
